When meeting with families looking to move into the Greater Moncton area, the subject of a family-friendly neighbourhood always comes up.
There is no perfect answer, as the choice of location is highly subjective and depends on what people are used to daily. To facilitate the task so that you can make the best decision for your next family home, I have put a top list of favourite family-friendly neighbourhoods in Greater Moncton (Moncton, Dieppe and Riverview)
Note that this is a complete personal opinion of mine, and I lived in Dieppe, Moncton & Salisbury, NB (On the Riverview end). I’m taking into consideration the location and type of neighbourhoods that would fit best to my family’s need and I believe to be great spots for your family as well.
Riverview
McAllister
Let’s begin with my favourite: Riverview Centre. I might be biased because I already live on this side of the bridge and everything I do mainly happens here, but Riverview is a growing town that promotes a family lifestyle and puts its community first. The McAllister Area offers homes with an older charm, only minutes away from many amenities and the high school! The slight issue here is that there are no French daycares or schools in Riverview (yet); however, kids can still attend Moncton’s French schools via school bus from Riverview.
We have actually listed a few homes in the area in the past few months, including 21 St Martin’s Rd and 34 Grindstone, and both sold in a heartbeat!
Coverdale Rd/ West Lake Subdivision
Located on the West side of Riverview, this is an area that combines a well-established neighbourhood and a brand new development, which is also a great opportunity to grow quick equity!
It feels rural (still considered within Riverview’s town limits), without sacrificing the proximity to amenities. This would be my top pick if I wanted to live more towards the countryside. Not to forget that Patricia Drive offers a gorgeous view of the Fundy Chocolate River!
Dieppe
Bonaventure Park
Dieppe is the town of choice for French people moving to the area. The entire city has many great neighbourhoods, but my top pick would be the Bonaventure Park sub-district. Conveniently, centrally located, this area of Dieppe has been around for years and features a good mix of properties: Semis, Bungalows, 2-Storeys and more. If I were asked what the nicest thing about living in Dieppe is, I would say the easy access to the trails without hesitation.
Moncton
Maplehurst/Kingswood
I am putting both Maplehurst and Kingswood together here because the exact location I’m talking about is right in the sweet middle of the two. We’re talking between Sunshine and Evergreen Drive here. The area has been intensively developed over the years, and most streets feature mature trees and a beautiful mix of home styles. With both public and private schools around, this is quite a popular area among families.
For people who value the quality and charm of older homes, this is a spot filled with gems with character.
In the end, the neighbourhood you will choose where to purchase your next home will depend on one thing only: Do you feel at home or not?
Riverview is mainly Anglophone (even though this is changing with all the newer developments in the area). It is known for its quiet, residential charm and strong sense of community.
On the other hand, Dieppe is best known for its strong Francophone culture and its modern, family-focused suburban feel.
Moncton is definitely the most central location and the city with the most growth, which means it has a lot to offer. However, the busy lifestyle is not always for everybody.
Still indecisive? I always suggest to all my clients when in the same situation to walk or drive the neighbourhoods they are ‘’eying’’ day and night to get a feel of it. Feel free to contact me directly if you want to start your house hunt!
